Process

STEP ONE - DESIGN

Once I receive an email for bespoke jewellery the first step is to discuss design and materials.

It’s great if you have a clear idea of what you would like but if not, don’t worry, we can spend time sharing ideas and photos until you’re confident with the concept.

I will then provide quotes and there will be a deposit required before moving onto the next step.

STEP TWO - SOURCING

I will begin to source any materials needed to create the discussed piece.

Gemstones are sourced from my suppliers throughout NZ, Australia and Asia.

If I am re-purposing client owned jewellery I will provide an address for these materials to be sent.

STEP THREE - CARVING

I create all my pieces from wax before casting in the selected metal.

This is quite an organic process where I respond to the piece as I’m making to ensure it feels balanced. I do not tend to work from drawings but occasionally this can be done during the design phase.

Once I’m happy with the carving I will send through photos. This is the time where changes to the design can be requested.

STEP FOUR - CASTING

I send the carved piece to my Tāmaki Makaurau based foundry. Here they will use the lost wax technique to cast the piece in the chosen metal.

(Wait time is up to 15 working days on arrival at foundry)

STEP FIVE - FINISHING + GEMSTONE SETTING

Once returned I begin the finishing process and setting gemstones.

I set most gemstones in my studio but when a particularly complex setting is require I will send the piece to a qualified diamond setter based in the Wairarapa.

STEP SIX - GOLD PLATING

If gold plating is required It will be sent to my Ōtautahi based platers for a two micron coat of 14ct yellow gold.

(Wait time is up to 15 working days on arrival at platers)

STEP SEVEN - SHIPPING

Your piece is completed and ready to be sent.

I use personalized boxes which are designed to safely store your jewellery in transit as well as the days when it’s not being worn.

I ship in 100% recycled post bags sourced from a trusted NZ company.
